Hello World! (again)

Hello World text on a black minimal background

In 1999 I did my first Hello World! That was in Java, right at the beginning of a Computer Science MSc. (Conversion) and after a BSc. in Biology.

After battling away with my first programming language I then spent some time working with data in the plant science world, so tech in the form of MySQL and Perl, but not really web dev. During this time I gradually moved more into web dev, converting a table based layout site into a site that used CSS for layout – the beginning of the modern web I like to think.

I moved on to using Content Management Systems such as Drupal and WordPress and then MVC frameworks like CodeIgnitor and even Squarespace.

And now

Blogging as a developer is new to me. I’ve written numerous essays and reports for various projects in the past but in subjects such as horticulture research, biology and computer science.

I’m currently teaching myself Javascript, React, Gatsby, Sanity and Redwood.js and I have also returned to WordPress and Drupal.

The common advice is to blog and make videos about the tech you’re learning., what you’ve discovered and how you overcame any problems or challenges. This sharing culture is something I love about this industry, so here’s my attempt at this. I’m hoping it helps me learn in a better way and enables me to give something back.
